LIB K127 – Management Strategies, Communication, and Teamwork (3 credits)

This course covers the basic supervisory skills that are necessary for library technical assistants. Topics included are job descriptions, employee evaluation, motivation, conflict management, interpersonal communication, time management, teamwork, project management, training techniques, affirmative action, censorship, and fiscal management.

LIB K125 – Digital Media (3 credits)

This course serves as an introduction to a variety of digital media forms as they are being used in the library and information service fields. Students will be exposed to such presentation software such as Facebook, Flickr, BitTorrent, Secondlife, podcasts, Mp3 and Mp4 files. Students will also use digital cameras and sound recorders to create original content.

LIB K116 -- Cataloging and Classification (3 credits)

This course provides an introduction to the organization of libraries and the principles and practices of cataloging including descriptive cataloging, subject analysis, subject headings and classification systems. Students learn basics of copy cataloging and original creation of MARC records for print and media. The course is taught using RDA (Resource Description and Access) cataloging rules and standards. Students will also learn how to apply and use BIBFRAME classes and properties to expand bibliographic MARC records.
