Hi Nicole,

I recently weeded fiction and donated them to our alternative school, which was a great in-house solution. We also considered New Haven Reads (https://newhavenreads.org/), but they do not pickup books either:

Thanks for your interest in donating books to New Haven Reads! You can find our full donations policy below:

We accept donations of gently-used and new books during our open hours, subject to the following guidelines:

·  Donations that exceed five boxes must be scheduled ahead of time with the Book Bank Director.

·  We do not accept travel guides, encyclopedias, magazines, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, multiple copies of textbooks, or books in poor condition (eg falling apart, moldy, water logged, etc.)

·  We do not accept book donations when we are closed, except by appointment.

·  We ask that, whenever possible, book donations be packed flat.

To schedule a large donation or a drop off when we are closed, please email books@newhavenreads.org.

With nonfiction in the past, we’ve simply removed soft covers/tags/blacked out stamps/stamped as “discarded” and put out with school’s trash in opaque garbage bags.

I've had boxes upon boxes of weeded books I've been storing for 2 1/2 years. Heartsprings just came and picked them up. I'm so excited.

Happy Friday everyone,

Hello CASL!

I am hoping you can assist.  I am in the process of weeding my nonfiction collection.  Our district is wondering what others do with their weeded books.  If you recycle/donate what organization(s) do you work with?

Thank you!

Nicole
