Dear Educators,
I am writing to invite your school to participate in two unique educational programs offered by the Jewish Federation of Eastern CT, Encountering Survivorsand Encountering Differences.
Our Encountering Survivorsprogram enables students to learn about the Holocaust through the eyes of local survivors whose stories are told through their children.
Our Encountering Differencesprogram pairs students with African-Americans to explore issues relating to race.
Both programs pair hosts with small groups of students for a series of programming that often includes visits to the host’s home. For many students, this is their first visit to a Jewish or an African-American home. In addition to crossing racial and cultural barriers, these programs are impactful experiences for students, helping them to draw lessons from current and past events and confronting hatred and prejudice.
We are currently enrolling for the 2019/2020 school year. Schools enroll for the year with programming beginning in September 2019 and continuing through May 2020. There has been tremendous response to these programs and space fills quickly. Schools interested in participating in either program should contact me as soon as possible but no later than May 31, 2019.
Attached is more detailed program information including two front-page articles that were featured in The Day.
