Hi Karen,
I just finished reading the memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive by Stephanie Land.  Additionally, Nickle and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America by Barbara Ehrenreich is an excellent look at poverty through the eyes of an investigative journalist who lived for a year as many of the poor in America do.  Both books would work well for the class.
Best,
Cheryl

Colleagues,

We have a professor who wants her class to find journal entries, diaries or excerpts of memoirs by Americans who have lived or are living in poverty. Do you have any names of such persons that you can provide?  Thanks.
