I haven't dusted in awhile, honestly.  The rug catches most of the dust but the books near high-traffic areas do get dusty.  Once or twice a year would be best.  I also used to inventory every year but haven't yet this year.  I try to time dusting with weeding and/or inventory.  We have microfiber cloths that we use dry and they are great for the shelves.  For the tops of the books, we have a mini shop vac that we borrow from the custodians with a long plastic hose.  I use the brush attachment and it sucks up the dust from the pages.

We probably do a major dusting once every 2 months and boy does it need it! The blowers make a mess. We usually use a wrung out rag to remove dust on shelves and even tops on books. We have also vacuumed them.

I’m wondering if there are any best practices/ guidelines for how often the tops of shelved books should be dusted (or even just how often it is feasible/ realistic for a school library to have this happen). Thank you!
