Hi,
I love the CASL thread pertaining to current fiction stats at our schools. It got me wondering about everyone's budget for books. We have, what I consider to be, a small book budget. It was slashed as soon as I was hired from $7000 (what the previous librarian had) down to $3000 (the budget amount I was given to work with since I came onboard). As you all are aware, $3,000 doesn't go very far. In addition to adding to our fiction collection that has been genrefied, we are in desperate need of updating our non-fiction collection. I ran a report for our NEASC review and was horrified at how old the collection was overall - fine for the classic literature section and perhaps historical topics, but not for science, technology, and current issues. So, if there is anyone who feels comfortable enough sharing budget info, I would be thankful for the insight.
PS: We were fortunate enough to obtain many books from the closing of the Willimantic Service Center. Those fiction titles, that we acquired, helped somewhat in filling out our collection.
