I have an English teacher who is using a non-fiction article that suggests  that ALL students take a gap year between high school and college in order to gain experience, maturity, etc.

She wants to pair it with a fiction short story (very short) that has a theme similar to the above article - perhaps it speaks to the benefits of traveling, exploring, not following tradition . . .
