I have 5th graders collect books from the K-2nd grade classrooms in the morning and check in books. This is extremely helpful since I have a duty from 8:30-9 and my first class is at 9:05.

Mine love choosing books to display (September 11th is their most recent), sharpen pencils, stock paper by computers, straighten up, wipe shelf markers, etc. J

They can help with ordering books - give them a certain amount and they help get to choose (with you as the final say). They look through catalogs and have ideas. Andy Plemmons has blogged about his process here:  https://expectmiraculous.com/2018/12/07/2018-19-student-book-budget-first-steps/

Hi all,

This is my first year with 5th graders in the elementary school. Anyone have suggestions as to jobs to have them do? I've heard of some schools having them "adopt - a - shelf" to take care of it /check on it when they come to library. Any other ways I could be utilizing them? Or suggestions on anything in general?

Thanks!

Kirsten
