You saw what we accomplished in 2019. 2020 promises to be even bigger. Launching Americans from U.S. soil, sending a new rover to Mars and continuing to prepare
for human missions to the Moon are just a few of the things we have planned for this year!
Preparing Artemis for the Moon – Every Artemis mission with our
Space Launch System (SLS) rocket will begin its launch to the Moon with 8.8 million pounds of thrust. This year, we’ll test the rocket's core stage with a
Green Run test on Earth to help ensure astronaut safety and mission success.

American Astronaut Launches
– This is the dawn of a new era in human exploration. We’re working with Boeing and SpaceX to launch astronauts on American rockets and spacecraft from American soil in
2020, carrying astronauts to the International Space Station.
Our Home in Orbit – We’re celebrating the 20th year of human presence on the space
station. The
dozens of experiments going on at any time aboard our orbiting lab are benefiting us on Earth, as well as preparing us for missions to the Moon and Mars.
Exploring Beyond
– In 2020, our next Mars rover will get a
new name and launch to the Red Planet. This mission will explore a Martian landscape shaped by water and will look for actual signs of past life.
Innovation for Exploration – Technologies needed for a sustainable human presence on
the Moon and Mars will advance in 2020, including an oxygen-generation experiment on Mars and innovative CubeSats in orbit.
Pioneering Flight
– Development will continue for our quiet supersonic test plane
X-59 QueSST (short for Quiet SuperSonic Technology). This is our first large scale, piloted X-plane in more than three decades.

Ring in the New Year with this beauty shot of Saturn! No other planet in our solar system has rings as splendid as Saturn’s. Our
Cassini spacecraft spent more than a decade examining them more closely than any spacecraft before it.
