I use http://www.kidsgoglobal.net/ as a “pre-search” activity to connect the students to a topic and fill in gaps in background knowledge.

 

I also have a resource list of picture books we use (attached)

 

From there we use NewsELA articles, Scholastic Go, and Explora through www.researchitct.org

 

These provide age appropriate materials for some pretty heavy topics.
