Hey Keely 😊

These guidelines are very helpful!! I agree that the features in ZOOM make it much more teacher/student friendly.. raise your hand, etc.

Hello all,

Have there been any developments with Zoom and becoming compliant with CT? My teachers have been using Google HangoutsMeet, but it's glitchy and there are some annoying drawbacks.

Good morning,

I have received a number of emails from district leaders asking about Zoom and other recommended software. A few updates:

  • Zoom: I had a productive discussion with Zoom (thanks for the contact, Karen Fildes) yesterday. The company promises to sign the Pledge soon, and I am following up with them today to offer a friendly nudge.
  • CSDE Recommended List: You may be aware that the SDE issued a list of apps they endorse for home use, not all of which were checked for compliance. After I spoke with the CSDE, we developed an outreach plan to vendors on that list that collect student data to make sure those vendors sign the Pledge ASAP. I will share updates as I can.
  • SERC List: I learned that SERC also published a list of apps (thanks, Barbara Johnson): https://ctserc.libguides.com/c.php?g=1017525&p=7370723. I have not had a chance to take a look at these and will work with SERC to address compliance issues.

So many districts are using the same software, so you are helping everyone when you direct vendors to sign the pledge using your own words or the draft template I posted here. Feel free to copy me if you like.

Best to you all — you are doing an amazing job caring for our teachers and students.

Doug
