Thanks for sharing!  I will be sharing a poem a day through the month of April through our Advisory Google Classrooms.  :)

Evening,
Starting Monday, our annual poetry contest for students (and if teachers/staff would like to participate) will begin. I will be asking students to submit their poems to my email.  We are a small school; the 3 top poets receive a gift card.   If it has been too difficult to choose the top 3, I have asked English teachers to help with voting. The contest will run until April 30th.

Last year, I created a March Madness Poetry and started with 16 poems(64 would have been way too many!)
I set up brackets on a wall and students and teachers/staff voted daily.  It was quite successful.

Popular High School poems from the past
  • "I wandered Lonely as a Cloud" by William Wordsworth
  • "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost
  • "Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost
  •   "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost
  • "Ode to the West Wind" by Percy Bysshe Shelley
  • "If" by Rudyard Kipling
  • "To an Athlete Dying Young" by A. E. Housman
  • "A Red, Red Rose" by Robert Burns
  • "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe
  • "A Dream Within a Dream" by Edgar Allan Poe
Last year, Crossing the Bar By Alfred Lord Tennyson and I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings By Maya Angelou were the finalists, the winner was Crossing the Bar(students read this during Sophomore English and it was a popular choice!)

Hope this helps, reach out if you'd like, I'd be happy to help!

Stay healthy and don't forget to laugh every now and again!

We haven’t visualized it yet, but an awesome ELA teacher suggested “Poetry Madness” bracket style like March Madness. I just need to hash it out with her as to the details. And I guess I should get busy since it is April in 4 hours!

Good Evening:

How is everyone celebrating National Poetry Month remotely?  I run the Advisory program at EHHS so I plan to post a poem a day.  DOes anyone have any poems that they love for High School aged students?  Or perhaps any videos of authors reading their poems?

Looking forward to hearing everyone's creative ideas!
