Good afternoon,

I am trying to plan ahead with a "Plan B" for our summer reading program this year. We usually have students select titles from a list and prepare to discuss them in small groups in the fall, but I am worried about equity of access to materials this year due to potential continued restrictions on print materials. I am working closely with our public library to be able to get ebook and audiobook copies of the titles we are recommending for summer reading, but would like to enhance our offerings with shorter texts that are freely available online as well.

As such, I am looking for suggestions of short stories, poems, articles, and even podcasts or videos that center on the theme of compassion

Our theme for summer reading for the upcoming school year is "#BHSreads2020: A Vision of Compassion." I have a number of full-length fiction and non-fiction offerings already in mind and on order, but need suggestions of these shorter texts and media so that I can create a website of offerings in case students cannot access copies of the suggested books.

I appreciate any suggestions my fellow librarians might have as we work together to meet the needs of the communities we serve in this new way. I will compile a list if others might like to think about a similar program offering.

Thanks in advance,
