I was in the CLC reopening webinar today.  It was very heavily weighted toward public libraries.  Nearly all of the ideas and suggestions that they were coming up with are completely impossible in a school library setting.  It was actually eye opening to hear the concerns of the public libraries and realizing just how difficult this will be on school libraries.

I believe CLC is hosting roundtables on the topic of public libraries reopening. Here is a page from CLC with great information and videos on this issue:   https://www.ctlibrarians.org/page/c19reopen

Hi Jodie,

I would love to be involved in this conversation.  Some of the school librarians in my district have started to discuss these issues, but it has not been mentioned within our district otherwise, to the best of my knowledge.  I’m very curious how this is going to play out at each level and ideas that others have to address the many issues at play.

I’m concerned with the recommendations shared from the CDC expert during the IMLS webinar given that the expert did not seem to be aware of the realities that libraries face (did they really not know that people sneeze on the books??  Geez, my oldest students (4th graders) still lick and chew on the books).

Stay safe,

Good Morning,

As we all continue to work to support our schools, a concern of mine is planning for re-opening.  I've been reading about recommendations for "disinfecting returned books/materials".   This alone will be a big change in my day-to-day with books and Chromebooks circulating.  Then I begin to think about the Media Center being a community space for all students and staff and I become somewhat overwhelmed with what new procedures might be put into place.

I was wondering if anyone has a plan or suggestions? Has administration started this conversation (or have you)? Have you thought about materials or supplies to purchase?  Protocols / procedures to put in place?

I was hoping we could collectively share ideas, suggestions, and resources to work through such changes / challenges.

Stay well,
Jodie
