Our budget for print books, ebooks, and audiobooks was completely eliminated this year across the district and we have two open library assistant positions that are not being filled - one in high school, one in middle school. Also, some of our dual-certified media specialists were assigned to teach a full class load in another subject so unable to do their media specialist jobs this year (but of course they are trying to do both). Overall media budget not frozen... yet. In a normal year it gets frozen in February/March, so imagine it may happen sooner this year but without the ability to buy any books or fill the open staff positions, the rest of the budget isn't as important since we have already paid for our online databases this year.

Our budget was cut substantially. I have had to cut a databases, and skip ordering books. The library is a supervised study hall, scheduled, and no books are circulating. All the bookcases are covered along the perimeter walls.

Challenging time, but we will make it through the year. I hope we can all be together in school next fall!

We started the school year with a frozen budget.  Still waiting to see if we ever get to order books, etc.

Hi folks,
I’m hearing we aren’t alone in that our budget froze last week.
If yours hasn’t, I’d suggest renewing those expiring databases, encumbering some funds, and grabbing some ebooks in case your district goes in that direction. Vendors will probably be forgiving for payments of renewals;one told me she’s been seeing it around the state.

I wish I had the forethought or the heads up.  Oops.
Be well!
