Every year when I barely had a budget I thought about cancelling Culturegrams, and every year I picked it up again. It was a database the students didn't need "overencouragement" to use. And we used it with social studies, English, culinary, and world language classes--as well as for an introduction to how very focused databases work. If you can scrape together the subscription fee, do. If you can't afford it through the library account, talk it up with the other departments who would utilize it and see if they have any funds. Culturegrams is a lot of well-organized information for a very modest price. And no, they're not paying me to say that.
