1. Paperback book covers
I used to use clear contact paper for an inexpensive paperback cover; now I purchase the EZ Covers from Kapco. They’re a little pricey, but SUPER durable, and they’re now available in the Scholastic Rewards catalog, if you have book fair $$.

Hello all,
I purchased some paperbacks and then realized I don't have anything to cover them with. What product do you all recommend? I need something that's pretty quick and easy that will help my paperbacks last and won't break the bank.
Thanks,

What a wonderful idea!  Thanks for sharing, Lisa.  It looks as though the kids had a lot of fun with it.
Best,
Cheryl

Hi everyone!

I thought I'd share some of the results from my Summer Reading Challenge that I had shared with you last spring.

It's been a busy and unusual fall, but we finally were able to recognize the students who worked hard to complete our challenge.

I LOVE the way it came out! We will revise slightly and try again next summer. Now that we have some examples, we will aim to get more participation.

Here's a short presentation  (less than 2 minutes) I put together with sample slides from some of the students who participated. I really enjoyed seeing the variety of books and places that my students read all summer long!

If you are curious, here's the blank slideshow we asked students to fill in and then submit in the fall.

Subject: [CASL-L] Still time to register to watch tonight's Thinkalong Structured Discussion!
Hello!!

Structured Discussion TONIGHT, Oct. 27th, 5:30-6:45:
 https://thinkalong-structured-discussion.eventbrite.com

About this Event

Thinkalong™ is an evidence-based, interactive, multimedia tool for guiding learners through structured discussions around topics and current events that directly affect their lives and communities. Thinkalong™ can be used in libraries, summer camps, after school programs, and traditional or blended classrooms. It supports individual, small group, and whole-group learning.

In this training, the Thinkalong team will engage Participants in a live, structured discussion about a pre-determined topic. There are limited Participant spaces, and Participants will agree on the topic and consume approximately 1 hour of public media content in preparation for the discussion. Observers will have access to view the structured discussion as well as brief overviews of thinkalong.org, other structured discussion strategies and the 5 Key Questions of Media Literacy from the Center for Media Literacy.

At the end of the training, educators will be able to:

  • Identify and describe several structured discussion formats compatible with Thinkalong, or other current event activities;
  • Implement Thinkalong with learners in any setting - home school, classrooms, libraries, summer camps, etc. - and in varied formats;
  • Better analyze media.

Connecticut-based educators also have access to a team of Outreach Specialists and other perks. Reach out at thinkalong@ctpublic.org - someone will get back to you quickly!

Thinkalong™ is a service of Connecticut Public, the parent company of Connecticut Public Television and WNPR, and the state’s only locally-owned media organization producing TV, radio, print, and web content for Connecticut’s wide-ranging and diverse communities.
