I attended a webinar yesterday and discovered a powerful resource called Project Look Sharp. Its goal is to get students to use critical thinking skills and a constructivist approach to decode media messages. It has a wealth of materials on its "Free Classroom Materials" pages. Here's a video that demonstrates a history teacher leading students through the decoding process using the "Media Construction of War" kit. This site isn't only for history teachers, however. There is content here for ELA and science as well.

How the site is organized: Project Look Sharp contains subject area kits, searchable by grade or content area.  They also have lesson plans listed individually, which are searchable by keyword. Each lesson/kit includes multiple media sources (videos and articles) and detailed plans and suggestions for how to use them with students. Here are the key questions for analyzing/creating media messages that teachers would keep circling back to when working with students.

I've already shown a few teachers these resources, and they are really excited, especially since they are easy to adapt to an online/hybrid learning environment.
