Once IT whitelists the pages on the FAQ section of their website, on the iPads, students click on the link to the safeyoutube link (well with the new name) and then they have to click on the aA next to the search bar and then choose "Request desktop website" and then it plays.

But we also discovered a hack: when in youtube, go up to the url and insert - after the T in youtube and then copy that new link and it opens on a clean page with no ads or suggested videos.
