Hi Tanya,

Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes is very similar to The Hate You Give, but "less mature".  Has main male protagonist w/ secondary female one...Listed for grades 5-8, with lower reading level that may be good if any of those students are struggling readers.  I really liked this book.

Hi-
Our 8th grade English classes teach this book but some parents would like their kids to read something less mature. I have read a lot of books that would work, but most of the contain a female protagonist. I’d prefer a more gender neutral book. Something recent would be best. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.
Tanya
