From Diversity to Inclusion: How to audit your collection and why

“Loved the slides with statistical information and the step-by-step process to audit, as well as emphasizing this will be a marathon, not a sprint. Work on it, bit by bit. Nice to have the reality check but also know it's important work to do."

– Program participant, April 14, 2021

Earlier this week, Children and YA Consultant Kymberlee Powe presented this session where she dove into the makeup of the publishing industry, discussed the difference between a diverse collection and an inclusive one, and walked us through the logistics of performing a diversity audit of your collection.

The examples and resources provided in this presentation focused on youth collections, but the method of performing a diversity audit, and the reason it’s necessary to perform audits, are universal to all collections.
