Earlier this month the ALA Public Policy and Advocacy office published the American Rescue Plan - State Funding Guide. The American Rescue Plan includes a large amount of funding for K-12 Education. Decisions on how these dollars will be spent will be made at state and local levels. The State Funding Guide has specific information and advice for state and local school librarians about how to advocate for some of this funding. {Go to the link above and scroll down to "Resources for School Librarians"}
The guide includes many helpful links, information about the bill and opportunities for school librarians, template letters to customize when reaching out to officials, and more. I urge all state chapters to take a look at this information and to also pass it along to librarians in their states.
The opportunity document includes a special thank you to the following contributors: • Policy Corps members: Sara Rachel Benson, Ann Ewbank, Amanda Kordeliski, and Deborah Rinio • Chris Harris, School Library System Director, Genesee Valley Educational Partnership • PPA staff: Alan Inouye, Megan Murray Cusick, Kevin Maher, Marijke Visser, and Megan Janicki as well as a thank you to AASL President Kathy Carroll, AASL Executive Director Sylvia Norton, and other leaders from AASL board and chapters, for their input.
I would also like to extend my thank you
to all who contributed to this helpful resource. Thank you!
