Good morning,
My curriculum director asked me to organize and catalog the curriculum library this summer, and I'm looking to order barcodes. I thought it would be an easy process, but when I went to fill out the order form I realized I have lots of questions that I can't answer.
The last time barcodes were ordered was 2006 from Bibliomation, which was several media specialists ago. I'm not sure what the final barcode number is, so I can't start from there. We use Destiny Follett for our catalog. I'm looking to order 1000 single barcodes to put on books from TLS (The Library Store.). Here are my questions-
- Do I use the 4 digit library identifier?
- Do I just pick a random start/end number (800000-900000) that I know hasn't been used?
- Barcode format? Code39, Codabar, Follett Style "Interleaved 2 of 5", Mod-43, Mod-10
- Do I need a check digit?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to email me off list.

“The best way to measure how much you've grown isn't by inches or the number of laps you can now run around the track, or even your grade point average-- though those things are important, to be sure. It's what you've done with your time, how you've chosen to spend your days, and whom you've touched this year. That, to me, is the greatest measure of success.” - R.J. Palacio, Wonder
