Hi Casey,

We are typically managing our HS LLC space during the day with digital literacy classes and students who are unassigned (11th and 12th graders).  When there are no teachers or substitutes available, many of our teaching brethren direct their students to work in the LLC if there are no substitutes.  It is obvious when several teachers are out and there are no substitutes.

Best,

Ken

Casey - fortunately I have never been asked to cover classes, and they have never sent a class to the library because of a shortage.

Dear colleagues—

How many of you spent a portion of the past week as a substitute because of the lack of classroom coverage by actual substitutes? It’s worse than ever this year, and not only when media specialists are covering classes, but also when one substitute covers multiple classes without coverage in the Media Center. Today we had one substitute covering six teachers’ classes in the MC, closed to all other students. It’s unfair to students, teachers, and substitutes, and I’m wondering how much worse it is in other districts.

Thanks in advance—
Casey
