When I was the Greatest was an amazing story and I thought the character with Tourette's Syndrome was written well
I was speaking with my children's coordinator and some that you might want to look into are the following:
We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozoi
Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Lynn Barker Steinmayer, MLIS, MSW (she/her) Library Director Goshen Public Library 42B North Street, Goshen, CT 06756 860-491-3234 ext 3 www.goshenpublib.org
Currently reading: We Were Eight Years in Power by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston
Recently read: The Book of Joy: lasting happiness in a changing world by Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu, State of Terror by Hilary Clinton and Louise Penny, AND Over the Top: my story by Jonathan Van Ness
I know this is being nit-picky, but instead of saying you're looking through the lenses of feminism, racism, and ableism, maybe you might phrase it as sexism, racism, and ableism?
Jason Reynold's When I Was The Greatest has a central character who has Tourette's Syndrome. That might be a choice for a book that shows with how people with disabilities face challenges.

Subject: Re: [CASL-L] Of Mice and Men QuestionHi Jen!I would suggest Dear Martin for racism and Clap When You Land for feminism. Their relation to OMAM may be a stretch, but they're great reads nonetheless.Good luck!

Hello everyone! I'm in need of Hive Mind ideas!_______________________________________________
One of our English teachers wants to do a book club centered around Of Mice and Men. This will be with her 10A and 10B classes. The premise is to have 10th grade students read OMAM while also bringing in Book Club groups that read an accompanying text that explores one of 3 lenses that relate to OMAM. My 3 lenses are: Racism, Feminism, and AbleismAny book suggestions that would meet this requirement? She is looking for 3 texts for each lense. Thanks for any and all suggestions!
