I love this idea! I was just talking to my middle school promote reading club members about this. Our plan is to record teachers and promote reading club members reading the first chapter of their favorite books and sharing it with students and teachers each Friday. Barb, I like the idea of creating a slideshow. I'm thinking of just keeping them all together and resharing the slideshow each week so they can watch the ones that may interest them. I'm also going to include some of the middle school ones in Titlewave (Follett).

Chelsea and all other HS librarians who are interested should feel free to add titles to the Google Doc attached! We can all share the books that have worked for First Chapter Friday--some books that will definitely get readers interested right away!

Thanks!

Hello!

I’m a colleague of Marisa and if it is OK with you, I would love to be included. I’ve done this since September too and the 9th graders really like it. I also have access to some resources that could be helpful.

Thanks!

Hello all--

Is anyone else doing First Chapter Fridays in a high school? Looking for books with really good, enticing, fairly clean beginnings to read out loud to 9th graders! Would anyone want to collaborate and add suggestions to a Google Doc? I've been doing it since Sept with our freshmen and they LOVE it, so I've got a bunch that already worked, but I'd be happy to share!

Would love to be included in the K-5 one.  I've already done a couple that I could add to it.

Barbara, do you already have chapter books that you are using for grades 3-5?

I created a slide for each week left in the year and shared it with EVERYONE on staff. I am hoping to get everyone in the building and District Admin involved in the project.

I am happy to collaborate with grades 3-5!

Hello All!

My 8th grade ELA teacher does First Chapter Friday most weeks and sometimes I go in to read. I also created a Flipgridtopic  with the idea that I could record a first chapter and she could use it if I am not able to be there in person that day. Hoping to invite other teachers and students to record so we will have a library of options.

And I saw the Follett resource this weekend on Twitter--it looks pretty great!
