We really enjoyed Padma Venkatraman.  She came to our school the month before we had to go virtual.  The cost at the time was $2500.00 plus travel expenses (train from RI), which isn't too far from your budget.

I have a grant I won to bring diverse authors to my middle school. I was inspired by the own voices movement. Have you had anyone come in person or virtually that is an author that might fit into a diverse authors grant? I have about $2300 to spend, so I have had trouble finding someone in that budget.
