When I worked at the elementary level, I would write sticky notes on the covers of new books that I thought would align with units, topics, and interests at different levels. I would put the basket next to the copy machine with a paper for teachers to check out, as they were making copies they could browse the titles.  I would also put new books out with snacks in our staff lunch room periodically.  Staff meetings and team meetings were also a good opportunity to share a new book or series.

At the high school level, we have a Keurig machine in the library and I put new and interesting books above the coffee maker.  I'll often host a coffee hour and put out new books.  If I find books that apply to our standards, curriculum, or might be a mentor text, I'll book talk the book to the team or teacher.  If I ask to stop into a team meeting and for them to arrange time for me, I'll bring chocolate.

I find my spontaneous excitement about the book(s) and sharing in the moment has more of an impact than creating a resource.  I will add the books to a Destiny Collection by topic so teachers can easily find if they are looking for new books for a unit/lesson, but the likelihood of the teachers opening up a list and using an in depth resource on a regular basis is not likely.  (Maybe it's just teachers in my district.)

Thanks for sharing. I was just thinking of doing the same thing for next year. I feel like teacher could utilize the library more often.

Greetings from Houston!

In Greenwich I would share a couple of books each week in an email but curate them on a Padlet for future reference.

In my new school, I felt staff could use a weekly newsletter that also curates the content. There’s so much I want to share that I thought a weekly newsletter is perfect and this staff really likes it.

Here’s the folder with samples:

Here is this year’s Padlet to see the difference:

Hello! I am looking to increase my library circulation with first and second grade teachers. My PreK and K teachers are excellent patrons. What do you use to communicate new titles to your staff? What recommendations do you have?

TIA!
