Hi Martha,I think this is an excellent choice and ditto for no pushback and lots of banned books in our curriculum and collection.Back to Beartown: I don't recall this scene being graphic or gratuitous. It is one of the most popular books in my collection since it came out (I have 6 copies and I also have an ebook and audiobook), and it appeals to both genders, all ages, and has so many issues students can dig into-- a good deal of representation with characters of color, socioeconomic differences, lgbtq, etc. I can't say enough about it. I would point to research that shows that shielding students from all difficult content actually increases, rather than decreases anxiety and that grappling with difficult issues and circumstances is adaptive and the best way to developing coping skills.Curious to hear what happens and I hope it gets into the curriculum!:) Monica--Monica Ahern

They noted some sexual assault content in the book and are concerned about getting pushback from students. We are wondering:- Do you have this book in your collection?- Have you ever gotten any push-back regarding this title for the content mentioned above or anything else in the book (I have not read it)Thank you so much for your input and help,Martha WrightKillingly High School_______________________________________________
