Hi all - It is my opinion that it does violate privacy. I struggled with this in the past when parents were in the library helping children check out books. I had to think carefully about who wouldn't go into the world and share about what Johnny had just checked out.

As we've started having volunteers again, I've been leaning toward having them do other projects such as reorganizing a section, shelving books, helping to process books, things like that.

Just my 2 cents.

What a terrific question!  I can't wait to see the replies.  Students are always looking for volunteer hours at our school, and a colleague suggested that I let volunteers check out books.  My instincts lean towards this being a privacy violation.

Does having volunteers checkout student library books violate a student's right to privacy? I am having a hard time finding a definitive answer.
