I’m writing to let you know about a grant opportunity to participate in a study featuring nature interventions designed to improve student scores on their standardized testing.
The Nature Study Grant This grant is valued at $2,000 for a mentored implementation of nature interventions as part of a study being conducted by Elizabeth Gross, assistant professor at Sam Houston State University and Jo Watson Hackl. In addition to being an author, Jo also is Founder of www.Outdoorosity.org, author of Smack Dab in the Middle of Maybe (Random House Children’s Books/Amazon Teacher’s Pick) and a frequent conference presenter on data supporting the benefits of incorporating elements from nature into school settings. The study is designed to measure the impact of nature interventions intended to improve student performance on, and to decrease student stress associated with, with their standardized testing. Schools can select to implement one or more (or all) of the following nature protocols:
v Leading students on a fifteen-minute walk in an outdoor environment within 30 minutes before the beginning of test administration;
v Providing students during the test administration with a gum containing natural mint oil, with replenishment of gum provided upon request;
v Diffusing a certified pure essential oil blend of natural scents during each hour of instruction during the review period and test administration; and/or
v Playing recordings of nature sounds in the background during the review period and test administration.
Participation in the study is free and open to all schools and participating schools are provided support every step of the way. You can find more information and a link to apply under the “Grants” tab at https://JoHack.com.
Many, many thanks!
