Hello – High school here, and we use Destiny to manage textbooks and graphing calculators. Every semester I send out a quick how-to so that teachers can sign
the student texts out in their classroom. If a teacher isn’t comfortable signing the textbooks out, I recommend that they have their students down the bar code and the student’s name. (This way there is a record with the student’s signature in case a student
returns a book that they are not signed out for.) The teacher gives me the paper copy, I input the information, and return the paper copy.
The nice thing about tracking textbooks through Destiny is that as we get a handle on what books the student owes when they transfer out or graduate. As Cheryl
says below, it takes a while to set up, but once it’s done the rest is easy.

Hi Eric,
We use Destiny to manage textbooks. While it's extra work for the library assistant and myself, the only extra requirement for the teachers is that they have the kids come to
the library to check out those materials at the beginning of the school year. Students walk in carrying their assigned copy, and we check them out. We organize which classes come in when, so that we don't have a glut of students waiting in line.
Setting this up is very time consuming at the beginning because you have to print and adhere all of the labels on the textbooks, instruments, etc., but it is efficient once that
is done.
I hope that helps.
Best wishes,
Cheryl

Hi everyone,
We are looking into Destiny Resource Manager for our middle school and high school to manage items such as textbooks, calculators, possibly musical instruments, and more. My superintendent wanted to gather feedback, before purchasing and rolling out the application, about how other libraries use it and how do they manage the time requirement needed of teachers? He is nervous that teachers may be apposed to it because of extra work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Eric
