EARTH DAY ACTION!
Every April, I try to look at my business and see what I can do to make my eco-footprint lighter. This year, I found something especially exciting and it may be of interest to your library too!

When I make up my kits, I try my best to cut fabric with zero waste. But I always end up with a bin of small thready leftovers. I found two services that accept hard-to-recycle trash.  These two companies recycle fabric scraps. They provide a box or a bag that I can fill up and then ship back or drop off!

I think I can afford the additional cost – I’ll monitor over the next few months. The first company is called TerraCycle – they recycle all kinds of things in addition to textiles including spent art supplies; used disposable gloves; and more. They provide a box and a prepaid shipping label so they can receive recyclables from across the nation. The second is here in the NY/NJ area – its called FABSCRAP. They provide a bag that I fill up and drop at their plant at (the very cool) Brooklyn Navy Yard. I'm planning to visit next week and will include pics if I can. There are volunteer opportunities to help sort the materials as well. Click on the links to learn more (no affiliate interest on my part = just FYI).

But Mainly – I’m excited that there is a way to make my business more sustainable for reals!
