Assistive Technology Petting Zoo

In-person at MLSC!

 

Want to make your library more welcoming for people who have disabilities?

 

Join us for the Assistive Technology Petting Zoo in-person at the Middletown Library Service Center (MLSC)!

 

The same session will be held twice:

 

Morning:

Tuesday, May 9 | 10-12 pm

Afternoon:

Tuesday, May 9 | 1:30-3:30 pm

The same content will be repeated in each session. Register for the time that’s most convenient for you.

Representatives from the CT Library for Accessible Books (CTLAB), the CT Tech Act Project, the New England Assistive Technology Center (NEAT), the State Education Resource Center (SERC), and UCP of Eastern CT will be on hand to share and demonstrate various forms of Assistive Technology (AT) that may benefit your library’s patrons.  A range of low tech and high tech AT will be featured, including:

 

·      apps for tablets and smartphones

·      screen reading and screen magnification software

·      handheld and desktop magnification devices

·      smart pens

·      computer Access devices (alternative keyboards & mice, switches, etc.)

·      a range of hearing-related devices

·      accessibility features for tablet

 

Who should come? Perfect for library workers interested in accessibility, including directors/administrators, children’s and YA staff, librarians, library staff, library board and friends members.

 

Accessibility: Let us know if we can provide accommodations for your visit to the AT Petting Zoo at the Middletown Library Service Center. Please use the Accommodation Request Form at least 7 days prior to the event.

 

Format: These are in-person, on-site events at MLSC. The content and format of the sessions is the same. To ensure that as many people as possible can attend, please register for only one of the two sessions (morning OR afternoon).
