Hi Todd/all,

CLA succeeded in obtaining passage of SB2 this year, and it was a heavy lift.

To do an Illinois version would be similarly heavy, imo.

Because of the state's legislative processes, an effort will take time but is of course quite worthy.

For what it is worth, CLC, CASL and CLA did a joint statement decrying attempts to censor that lives on the respective websites.

Alliances and advocacy have never been more important for our orgs, and we need to work together to make it work for all.

I'm glad to talk, meet, Zoom, whatever to help make this happen.

Doug

Recently, the state of Illinois passed legislation that financially penalizes local and school libraries that cave to white nationalist/MAGA attempts to challenge and ultimately ban books.  I think CASL and its members, along with other library organizations like CLC, should press our state legislature to draft similar legislation.  Unfortunately, the problem has infected our local communities as described in this article from the CT Insider.  Has anyone heard of any attempts to organize and push for this type of protection in the state?
