Dear Members,
CLA President Sarah McCusker, CASL President Jenny Lussier and I would like to invite you to join us for a Library Listening Session with Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, State Representative Christine Palm and other members of the CT General Assembly on Tuesday, December 5th from 3 to 5pm at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
Lt. Governor Bysiewicz and Representative Palm have invited CLA, CASL and CLC to share with members of the legislature the issues of the day facing libraries and library workers. While we know that there are many pressing issues, together CLC, CLA and CASL have prepared an agenda that focuses on intellectual freedom, the need for more school librarians and fair pricing for ebooks. On hand will be library leaders from around the State to speak on these issues including: Sam Lee, Chair of the CLA Intellectual Freedom Committee; Rebecca Harlow, Chair of the LION eBook Committee; Barbara Johnson, Past President of the CT Association of School Librarians and more. We invite you to join us!
This is an unprecedented opportunity for Connecticut libraries. Rather than pleading with legislators to listen to us, they’ve invited us to come and speak. We cannot let this opportunity go by. Please come out and show your support for libraries, librarians and your colleagues. We want to fill the room! Let’s show the legislature that libraries are important, that librarians are everywhere, and that the freedom to read is fundamental.
Please let us know if you are able to join us by filling out this form so we can have an estimated headcount. Feel free to share this invitation with library board and friends members. All are welcome. I hope to see you there!
All the Best,
|
