***I forgot to add that we limit the time that the students are using the VR headsets to 25 minutes. Students can get nauseous if they are wearing the headsets for longer than 25 minutes. I did a lesson where the students explored 3 360 degree pictures and 2 explorable scenes and the students answered one question for each picture and scene (5 questions total).

I have been following your discussions on VR headsets. When I looked at them for elementary school there was a warning stating children must be 12 years old to use them. Other products stated 13 as the youngest acceptable age. Would you please share what product you are using with 5th graders? I would love to try this out!

Thanks!

Hi Melissa,

In our district we have a set of ClassVR headsets that our tech teachers lend to classrooms and they also help support us when we are teaching with them. Our upper elementary students have used them for exploring landmarks and famous places, I just used them for a unit on India with our 6th grade SS classes. I will be doing another unit on China with the 6th grade SS classes. ClassVR has a database with 360 degree pictures, explorable scenes (explored with controllers), and explorable objects. The headsets aren't perfect and we've had to work through some glitches, but overall the students really like them. The ClassVR database contents pairs especially well with SS classes and World Language.

Hi Melissa. I’m on spring break but have info that’s probs best relayed over the phone. Viewing goggles are gathering dust. We mostly just use iPads these days.
AR apps we’re using include HoloGlobe, Explorer, 57 North, and have been deep diving into Halo AR. The state offered a series of webinars w Jaime Donally recently. I can find that link for you.

Hello!

I am working with a six grade social studies teacher on some virtual reality activities. If anybody out there has anything they’ve utilized recently that is quality, I would love to hear about it.

I also have a whole bunch of merge cubes that are still unopened but I haven’t thought about them for about four years. Wondering if that is still a thing if anybody actually uses them.

Thanks in advance!
Melissa
