Job Description:

Rumsey Hall School, a PreK-9 boarding and day school, seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Library Media Specialist to join our community. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the school's library resources, promoting literacy, and supporting the academic curriculum through engaging lessons and collaborative projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach engaging library and media literacy lessons to students in grades PreK-9, adapting instruction to meet the needs of different age groups and learning styles.

  • Collaborate with teachers to develop interdisciplinary projects incorporating research and multiple literacies (information, media, technology).

  • Promote a vibrant culture of reading through activities, events, and initiatives.

  • Curate, organize, and provide access to a diverse collection of physical and digital resources that support the school's curriculum and promote a love for reading.

  • Instruct students in research skills, information literacy, digital citizenship, and ethical use of information.

  • Coach teachers on integrating technology to enhance learning and 21st-century skills.

  • Establish goals and manage the library budget, systems, and staff/volunteers.

  • Partner with community libraries and stay current with library and educational trends.

  • Maintain accurate records of library materials, circulation, and usage statistics.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library Science, Instructional Technology, Education, or a related field from an accredited institution.

  • Connecticut State Library Media Specialist certification preferred.

  • Prior experience as a librarian and/or library media instructor, preferably in a PreK-9 setting.

  • Classroom teaching experience, especially at the elementary/middle school level.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Mastery of technology tools and applications for digital learning.

  • Passion for fostering the love of reading and life-long learning.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in a diverse school community.
