Elevate, Advocate, and Celebrate:

A Day of Professional Development for School Librarians

Join us this Election Day, November 5, 2024, for an all-day event dedicated to empowering school librarians. Dive into three transformative sessions designed to enhance your library's impact and reach within your community. Spearheaded by Barbara Johnson, the District Instructional Technology Coordinator for Colchester Public Schools, this event will give you valuable insights and practical tools to transform your library's outreach.

Creating Your Library Brand Session

Discover the power of branding and learn how to make your library as iconic as the "Golden Arches." This session will guide you through the process of crafting a unique library brand that resonates with stakeholders. You'll gain insights into effective marketing strategies, social media engagement, and creative programming. Walk away with actionable ideas to create compelling marketing materials, design inviting spaces, and establish guiding principles for your library's future.

Reporting as an Advocacy Tool Session

Take the boring out of reporting by using data as an advocacy tool. Learn how to leverage data to secure better resources, from increased budgets to expanded collections. This interactive session will provide a crowdsourced compilation of strategies for championing your library's value to patrons and decision-makers alike. Discover innovative ways to present your library's story through data, from Google calendars and website analytics to fitness tracker statistics.

Promoting Book Love in your School Community Session

Engage in a hands-on playground session where you'll explore dynamic methods to ignite a passion for reading among your students. Experiment with both digital and tactile approaches to book promotion and discussion. The session will culminate in a collaborative sharing of fresh ideas and beloved reads. Bring along your favorite book-promotion techniques to contribute to our crowdsourced treasure trove of inspiration.

We encourage you to register early because we anticipate the event will fill up quickly. The cost is $35 for members and $65 for non-members. The event will run from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the University of Hartford Magnet School, West Hartford. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with fellow librarians, enhance your professional toolkit, and celebrate the joy of reading.
