NEWS OF NOTE

 

I normally stick to conventionally published stories about CT Libraries in this newsletter but I this story was too important to leave out:  A Recent Hartford Public High School Grad Can’t Read.  Here’s how it happened.  

 

Senators Murphy and Blumenthal announce bicameral resolution condemning right wing censorship and book banning.

 

Lt. Governor Bysiewicz was at the Norwalk Library in observance of Banned Books Week.  Nice job representing us, Scott and Sherelle!

 

Police arrest 17 year old in connection with multiple bomb threats and swatting incidents including at the Connecticut State Library and ‘a library in Easton.’  And here.  And here.

Norwalk non-profit tries to rent space in a building that the City acquired to expand library parking. 

 

Congratulations to the CT Association of School Librarians and the Willimantic Public Library on a great event at Eastern!

 

The Daily Campus publishes ‘A Student’s Guide to Homer Babbidge Library’ 

 

CT Teacher, accused of antisemitism, is no longer the writer-in-residence at the Wilton Library.  And here.  And here.

 

Southington Library is honored by the Connecticut Age Well Collaborative as one of 50 spots in the State that demonstrate ‘age, dementia and disability inclusivity.’  Congratulations to Tom and team!

 

National Non-Profit installs 42 small libraries in prisons around the State.  And in sort-of related news:  A new report finds using computer tablets in Connecticut prisons doesn’t replace access to print books.

 

West Hartford Town Council approves $80K spending package for computers, furniture and speakers.

 

This is cute:  Students at Scotland Elementary School built a mini-replica of their school building to be a little free library.

 

Congrats to Sheri and Geri and the team!  Stratford got $25K from the State for upgrades to their Teen Room.  

 

East Hartford Library comes to life with art celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
