The Hops Company is magnificent. They’re doing a complete overhaul which I believe is scheduled to be completed by March. They have always done events of all kinds and also had a brewery. They are converting to an event only business. They’re really good people. Magnificent grounds, service etc. and lovely to work with.Get Outlook for iOS

Hi Jen
I don’t have ideas near you but I know in the past Norwalk high bused their kids to Stamford for a prom.
So the kids came to school then buses to the venue, is that an option for you if it’s far? If not I hope you find a close option!

Subject: [CASL-L] This week in CT Libraries: 1.13.25
Good Morning CT Libraries, here is what is going on this week.
CLC HAPPENINGS
LAST CALL Today at 2pm. Join me for a coffee chat with John Chrastka of EveryLibrary as we unpack the November 2024 election and understand its implications for libraries.
LAST CALL Two book contract trainings – we highly recommend each library sends a representative. Wednesday at 11:30am or Thursday at 4:00pm.
Lots of Roundtables this week: Today at 11:30 Academic Archives and Special Collections meets to talk about protecting collections from the weather! Special Libraries meets Tuesday to talk about personal branding. Library of Things meets Wednesday to talk about ways to store all the stuff! AI meets Thursday to talk about the pros and cons.
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
The Legislative Session started in Hartford last week. As a reminder, this is the ‘long session’ where legislators will be debating a two-year budget.
eBooks
- Senator Tony Hwang introduced a library ebook bill last week for the fourth year in a row. The language in the bill is old. My guess is that this bill will be abandoned, and another bill will be introduced with language similar to last year by Representatives Blumenthal and Kavros DeGraw.
Book Banning
- Senators Bob Duff and Ceci Maher have introduced SB 523: An Act Concerning the Curation and Retention of Literary Materials Contained in Public and School Libraries and Legal Protections Afforded to Librarians and Staff Working in Such Libraries. The bill is quite short. My guess is that this is a place holder bill for a longer and more comprehensive piece of legislation later in session.
NEWS OF NOTE
Meriden celebrates Three Kings Day.
Westport Library hosts panel discussion on local impact of 2024 election
Drop me a line if you or your library is in the news and I’ve missed it!
Have a good week,
Ellen
