Hello school librarians! Are eBooks important to you and your students? If so, please submit written testimony by 5pm on Wednesday, Feb. 19 or better yet, sign up to testify in-person or via Zoom. CLA and the CLC, with support from CASL, have been working hard to get fair pricing for eBooks. Not sure what to do or how to do it? Follow the excellent directions below. The more voices the legislators hear from, the better! It doesn't have to be long - tell your story!!! You can even do it anonymously!

Thanks in advance!
Jenny

Dear Colleagues,

Time is running out to sign up to testify for tomorrow's eBook hearing!

Did you miss the eBook hearing 2 weeks ago? Do you want to share your story? (Or share it again and bring a friend?) Not to worry!!

We have a second chance to express support for legislation on eBook & digital audiobook licensing! And the more voices to join in, the better.

***Stay tuned for opportunities to take action on other library legislation...

ANOTHER CHANCE TO AMPLIFY OUR MESSAGE!!

The Connecticut General Assembly’s Planning & Development Committee has raised HB 6958: An Act Making Certain Terms In Electronic Book And Digital Audiobook License Agreements Or Contracts Unenforceable.

WHAT’S HAPPENING & WHEN

The Planning & Development (P&D) Committee will hold a hybrid public hearing TOMORROW, Wednesday, February 19 starting at 10:30 AM.

YOUR VOICE IS NEEDED

We need library workers and library supporters from all over the state to submit written testimony in support of this bill!

If you already submitted testimony last week, you can submit the same letter again - just be sure to update as appropriate (e.g. committee name, bill number, legislator names, etc.)

We also need folks to testify in person or over Zoom!

If you can submit written testimony AND testify at tomorrow's hearing, that's amazing!! If you can only do one, or the other, that's OK too! Any support helps.

~~~ HERE’S WHAT TO DO NOW ~~~
Submit Written Testimony by 5 PM tomorrow, Wednesday, February 19 (Or sooner! But if you miss that deadline, still submit your testimony - better late than never!!). Here’s the link:
ADVOCACY
Connecticut legislators have been hearing from us for the last few years about how important this legislation is for libraries and the people we serve. Last year, the legislation made it all the way to the floor on the last day of the session - this year, we're aiming to get it over the finish line!
Our numbers really, REALLY matter. Tell legislators what a big deal this is.
Thank you for your support!
