Communicating through a third party can be stressful for everyone involved – but it doesn’t have to be that way! Participants in this workshop will develop an understanding of the interpreter’s role, and will learn how to effectively communicate through an interpreter, as well as best practices for finding and hiring the right interpreter for the situation. 

Presenter: 

Kathy MacMillan [KA-thee MAC-mill-an) (she/her) is a writer, nationally certified American Sign Language interpreter, librarian, and signing storyteller. She has worked in school and public libraries for over 25 years, and has published more than two dozen books for children, teens, and adults. She lives in Baltimore, MD.

This program is being recorded and the recording will be made available to the CT library workforce via the CT State Library Niche Academy. Slides will be made available to those who registered.
