Hello AASL Members,

I'm passing along information from ALA; please review, take action and share with those in your circle of influence.  We must all work together and advocate for our libraries. They are a worthy, critical, and the best economic investment for our communities.

We want to keep you up to date on the progress with ALA's IMLS lawsuit and the call to action for our Dear Appropriator letters. Here are some highlights in the media and other communications and resources from the week ending May 2. Thanks to the Public Policy & Advocacy office with assistance from Communications,  Marketing, Media Relations office.

What we're watching/acting on:

  • Senate Dear Appropriator campaign starts (resources below)
  • The president's budget includes $0 for libraries. Check out our resources for our Fund Libraries campaign:

What's coming up?

  • Mark your calendar: Show Up Webinar focused on FY26 library funding. 2 p.m. CT, May 12. Learn more.
  • What's next with ALA's lawsuit: The temporary restraining order was a huge victory for IMLS workers, protecting them from imminent layoffs. Next, the judge will consider our request for a preliminary injunction. Both parties must present a joint status report to the court Tuesday, May 6, on the preliminary injunction. Here's a link to the latest court document for more info.

What can you do?

  • Sign up for action alerts; share with family, friends and library supporters
  • Keep up with our press releases here and our stories for the public here
