Dear CASL members,

I hope you all are doing well and are getting excited for the start of the school year!

The Freedom to Read continues to be an important focus for library workers of all kinds across CT and the U.S.. I am excited to share that the Law 4 Librarians training from ALA that took place in Spring 2024 will have a 2nd cohort this fall/winter.

This is an opportunity for someone who is really interested in gaining the legal knowledge to address censorship and intellectual freedom issues. This 2nd cohort will take place this Fall/winter and is being held online. This is a 2 year commitment and is a train-the-trainer model.

If you are interested, there will be a Meet and Greet session on Monday, Aug. 25 at 5pm EST. You do not need to attend to apply.

From ALA: Join the American Library Association Office of Intellectual Freedom staff and current Law for Librarians trainers on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 5:00pm Eastern for a Meet and Greet session.

You'll learn more about the Law for Librarians initiative, our plans to launch a multi-week, online training program for the second cadre of L4L trainers, and the responsibilities of serving as a trainer. You'll also hear first-hand from several current L4L trainers about their experiences, the impact they are making, and their words of advice.

Please register for the Zoom session in advance at: ala-events.zoom.us/meeting/register/...

Please email me by Aug. 29 if you would be interested in becoming a Law 4 Librarian for cohort 2 or have any questions. You can also email Tess Mawhinney-McCool who was in Cohort 1 - librariansrgreat@gmail.com with questions about the experience.

Thank you!

Jenny
