I argue against the category "Realistic Fiction" because historical fiction is "realistic" and mystery could be "realistic". That's why we call it just "contemporary fiction".On Mon, Sep 29, 2025 at 2:24 PM Tess Mawhinney-McCool <tess.mawhinney@gmail.com> wrote:_______________________________________________Hi Everyone,My high school library's fiction collection is genrefied. Currently, there is a realistic fiction section and a general fiction section. For those of you who have a genrefied collection, do you distinguish between the two sections, or do you just have a general fiction category? I've noticed my students rarely look at the general fiction collection, so I was hoping to move those into the other genre categories, but then books like The Art of Racing in the Rain or Circe don't seem to fit any category. I know there are many instances where there's no perfect fit, but I would love to hear your thoughts about the general fiction / realistic fiction categories.Thank you!Tess McCoolSHS Library
