I saw what Casey had done last year and loved it, so I tweaked it a bit to fit my readers.  We did a 10 for '25 Challenge.  Students and teachers had to read 1 book of their choice from 10 different genres. When they finished a book, they put a sticker on the tracker sheet and wrote a quick blurb about the book on an index card that I displayed under the genre. This year I'm going to have them fill out a Google Form with the blurb so I can turn it into a shelf talker.

The challenge went from January- December. Everyone who had signed up and had read at least 1 book was invited to a special lunch in December (I'm not picky, I'm just happy if anyone participates.) We had mugs with "10 for '25 Challenge" on them that they could personalize with stickers. If they completed the challenge, they received a prize and recognition on the announcements. This year I might make them a badge to add to their email when they finish. Seniors who had graduated and retired teachers were able to come back for the lunch since it was during their break.

I love how you are getting the staff involved in the competition WITH the students!  It's just great to get everyone involved in reading for pure enjoyment.  Especially at the high school level!  Love it!

Jen runs a fabulous reading challenge for students--her Instagram shows how engaged the kids are!

Highly recommend checking out her year-long program! (Mine is modeled off hers, but is more about a new year's resolution type of challenge!)

If anyone is interested in a reading challenge for their staff and students for 2026, here's a link to the template and flier we use at GMHS! It's fun to watch the charts fill up with titles as we get closer to June!

Happy New Year!
