BREAKING NEWS

CLC Executive Director Ellen Paul named a 2026 Library Journal Mover & Shaker

A MESSAGE TO THE CLC COMMUNITY FROM THE CLC BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The CLC Board of Trustees is very pleased to share that Executive Director Ellen Paul has been named a 2026 Library Journal Mover & Shaker, one of the profession’s most significant national recognitions.

Each year, Library Journal selects 50 individuals from across the country whose work is helping to shape the future of libraries. Ellen is being recognized for two areas many of you have been directly involved in: the statewide effort to address restrictive ebook licensing, and the strategic planning cohort work with libraries across Connecticut.

Ellen's Mover & Shaker profile

Full press release

Ellen Paul

Over the past few years, Ellen has worked with partners across the state, including the State Library, the Connecticut Library Association, the Connecticut Association of School Librarians, and many of you, to build momentum around the ebook bill. That work led to the passage of new legislation and has positioned Connecticut as part of a broader national conversation on equitable access to digital content.

At the same time, the strategic planning cohort program has brought 25 libraries together to develop practical, community-centered plans, particularly supporting libraries that may not otherwise have the resources to undertake that work on their own.

Part of Ellen’s leadership is how she shows up in the work. She listens closely, draws on the expertise of others, and inspires people to work together in ways that build real momentum for Connecticut libraries.

More broadly, since joining CLC as director in 2021, Ellen has led work to stabilize and strengthen the consortium’s financial footing, expand vendor partnerships, and grow programs that now return an estimated $7 million in annual savings to Connecticut libraries. This combination of advocacy, collaboration, and operational leadership has helped position CLC and its members for greater resilience and impact.

This recognition reflects not just Ellen’s leadership, but the collective work of libraries across Connecticut. We are especially glad to see that work recognized at the national level.

Please join us in congratulating Ellen on this well-deserved and exciting honor.
