Please excuse this duplicate posting.

Dear CASL members and friends,

Here is an important update to some Federal legislation on which we request you take action. A few months ago, H.R. 7661 was introduced but did not make it out of committee.

A new bill, H.R. 2616, has been introduced and is even more concerning. In addition, it has been passed out of the House and we are now waiting to see when it will be called for a vote in the Senate.

Authors Against Book Bans posted the images below and information on Instagram on May 23rd. We are sharing them with you because they clearly explain about this bill and why it matters. Thank you to AABB.

Take action now:

1) Call your Federal Senators. You can do this yourself or use an app such as 5 Calls which provides an excellent script to which you can add your personal touch (Oppose attacks on LGBTQ+ Students). This does not take much time. Encourage them to vote for the Federal Right to Read Act (HR 6440 and SB 3365) instead.

2) Share with friends and family who live outside Connecticut and encourage them to call their Senators. The more Senators that hear from their constituents, the better.

For more information, read this post from PEN America.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
