We have a subscription to typing.com which is linked in their Classlink. Chromebooks are given to 2nd-8th graders, and K-1 uses iPads. All 2nd-8th graders use typing.com, and most of the instruction is done during my library media classes. Some of the classroom teachers will do typing.com during choice times, but I don't think they are providing any direct instruction for them.

Hello All-

In what grade does typing instruction begin?
  • If it is below 3rd grade, could you please provide detail about what type of instruction happens (home row, keyboard awareness, etc.)
    • are students in K-2 that receive typing instruction using
      • computers/laptops
      • iPads (with keyboard on screen)
      • iPads with external screen
  • If a program is used, what is it and how do you like it?
  • Who teaches typing?
  • Bonus- if you have a scope and sequence of typing skills that you can share.
Thank so much for sharing,
Sharon
